Until January 31, voting is underway for the sixth edition of the Iberian Festival Awards, which has, in the Best Non-Music Festival category, nominated Imaginarius – International Street Theatre Festival of Santa Maria da Feira. This category has 33 nominees between Portuguese and Spanish events. Voting is taking place online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/IFA2022.
In the year that celebrated two decades of the largest street arts festival in the country and, simultaneously, its 20th edition, the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira proposed Imaginarius – International Street Theatre Festival to the Iberian Festival Awards, which has been selected, among numerous entries, for the Best Non-Music Festival category.
Since 2001, Imaginarius has been asserting itself as an exceptional cultural and tourism event, making it the biggest street arts event in Portugal and an international reference, contributing to a unique and differentiating tourist offer in the region. It invests in major international productions and in the development and debut of original creations, also providing local artists with a reference space to experiment and imagine. On average, about 75,000 visitors come to Santa Maria da Feira, attracted by the latest enticing and provocative street arts that Imaginarius presents in each edition.
The Iberian Festival Awards, promoted by APORFEST – Portuguese Association of Music Festivals, are the only Iberian recognition dedicated to festivals, and an important reference in the evolution of the sector. This event is dedicated to promoting, enhancing and celebrating all professionals, partners and artists responsible for the development, growth and improvement of this cultural sector.
In this edition, there will be prizes in 20 different categories, and two prizes for excellence. Imaginarius – International Street Theatre Festival competes in the Best Non-Music Festival category. The decision is up to a domestic and international jury, but also to the public, who have a say in 11 categories. The Gala of the Iberian Festival Awards is already scheduled for 26 March, in Lisbon.
