The goal is to present the festival’s programme and share reflections on the present and future of a transformative artistic project that is celebrating 25 years of resistance. In a shop within the Municipal Market, converted into a space for meetings, information, and reflection, Imaginarius opens its doors to all who wish to share their thoughts and reflect on the festival in public.

The first conversation will take place on 8 April at 6:30 PM and is intended for residents of the historic centre. The programme, the invited artists, and the city’s public spaces will be presented to the community by political leaders and the festival’s artistic direction. This will also serve as a strategic overview of the festival, sharing curatorial choices and lines of thought that guide Imaginarius as a cultural project rooted in public space and committed to the life of the territory.

In a second gathering, scheduled for 15 April, restaurants and businesses in the historic centre are invited to share conversations about the festival’s impact on the city. At 4:00 PM, a conversation will be led by programmer and cultural mediator Luís Sousa Ferreira, who will help to understand how cultural programming influences daily urban life and how this relationship can be considered in a more conscious and collaborative way. At 6:30 PM, the meeting is aimed at business owners, with the purpose of sharing perceptions, identifying challenges, and discussing how cultural activity and the local economy can interact in a close, balanced, and sustainable way.

The conversations continue on 29 April at 6:30 PM with a sharing and discussion session for local artists and creators, led by choreographer and performer Cristina Planas Leitão. The goal is to identify ways to strengthen the local cultural ecosystem, create support networks, and affirm artistic creation as a recognized ongoing practice in the region.

The month of May holds three more Imaginarius talks, open to all interested parties. The first, scheduled for 6 May at 6:30 PM, will focus on the repositioning and new visual identity of Imaginarius, and will feature the participation of the Councillor for Culture, the festival’s artistic director, and designer André Cruz. The second, to be held on 19 May at 6:30 PM, will be led by the Brazilian company Desvio Coletivo, which will participate in the festival following an artistic residency with the community. This meeting will be an opportunity to consider public space not as a stage, but as an active field of artistic dispute, presence, and transformation.

The series of talks concludes on 19 May at 6:30 PM with a presentation sharing experiences by the Australian company Legs On The Wall, which brings to Imaginarius one of the programme’s highlights (performance/installation THAW). In this meeting, they will explore large-scale work processes, the relationship with architecture and the urban landscape, and how artistic intervention can activate public space as a place of awareness, risk, and transformation.

The historic centre of Santa Maria da Feira hosts the Imaginarius festival between 21 and 23 May, a period in which the city welcomes hundreds of artists and audiences from different regions. Over three days, 42 companies from 16 countries will present 39 shows, totaling 125 performances, all free of charge.
