Love, loss and longing
Orfeo & Majnun is an intercultural, interdisciplinary and inclusive project, inspired by the Greek myth of Orfeo and Eurydice and the Arab love story between Layla and Majnun.
Based on the human values that unite the cultural diversity of these two narratives, the project promotes a number of participatory processes with citizens from various generations and cultural and social contexts. As a co-creation traveling across several European cities, in each place it meets it celebrates the scope and diversity of communities and their artists, who use the most diverse languages to express themselves about the triad of emotions that punctuate the project: love, loss and longing.
In Santa Maria da Feira, it is part of the programme of Imaginarius – International Street Theatre Festival.
Co-financed by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, the Orfeo&Majnun project has as partners the European Capital of Culture Valletta 2018, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Krakow International Festival, La Monnaie / De Munt, the Operadagen Rotterdam, Wiener Konzerthaus and the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira.
