Wire crossing 20 meters high connects buildings in the historic centre of Feira

Between two buildings on Gaspar Moreira Square, in the historic centre of Santa Maria da Feira, 20 metres high, an artist from INAC – Instituto Nacional de Artes de Circo will walk calmly on a 70 metres wire, tearing the sky and delimiting two parallel worlds. “Ponto de Partida” is an Imaginarius Creation that will have its world premiere during Imaginarius – International Street Theatre Festival.

“It is the first time that a Portuguese company has created a funambulism show in a contemporary circus language”, reveals Bruno Machado who, along with Juliana Moura, is in charge of the artistic direction of the Ponto de Partida creation.

Inspired by the life and work of the artist Wassily Kandisky, Ponto de Partida – Travessia is a contemporary circus artistic research project on the topic and technique of funambulism. Kandinsky’s quest to relate art to spirituality will also be present in this research. Concepts developed and worked on by Kandinsky such as the point, the dash and the line will be the basis for research and composition of movement and interpretation.

Through a bold and multidisciplinary work, Ponto de Partida intends to compose a walking visual work on the wire during the walk of the funambulist Jessica Lane.

“Every year, INAC tries to bring something new to the Imaginarius audiences, something different and surprising, and this year, we are presenting a funambulism creation, a technique that captivates us”, stressed the artistic director, ensuring a “one of a kind spectacle”.

The Imaginarius Ponto de Partida Creation takes place on 25 May, at 9:30pm, and on 26 and 27 May, at 9pm, at Gaspar Moreira Square, in the historic centre of Santa Maria da Feira.

It is in Santa Maria da Feira that the dream happens. From 25 to 28 May, dream with us!
