A BODY AND OTHER OBJECTS is a performance that explores the body as matter, as an object, as a container, and intends to investigate and explore its qualities and capabilities, questioning the existence of hermetic boundaries. Through the objectification of the human body, this performance aims to create a poetic yet exploratory space that embraces the diversity and ambiguity of the self. It seeks to blur the border between the body and the object. As a starting point, the show explores hanging oneself from one’s hair as a condition for the objectification of the body. The suspended body is placed in relation to another human body, as well as other non-human objects, exploring themes such as agency, manipulation, gender and exploring the limits of freedom.
Inspired by the framework of object-oriented ontology and of new materialism, A BODY AND OTHER OBJECTS embraces the idea of performative rigging: recognizing the presence and essentiality of the rigging apparatus and exploring the ways in which interaction with these functional objects transforms space, the atmosphere and the human gesture.
