This project by the international company Artelier? Teatro de Rua aims to implement a model of “conscious artistic circulation”, around the visitation of an artistic embassy to riverside municipalities, from the river and the sea, aboard a vessel/cultural centre, with the name and brand IMAGINARIUS.
Por Mares Nunca [de Artes] Navegados results from a reflection on new models of contemporary art in street arts, looking for activities aimed at environmental ethics and sustainability.
The vessel, its captain and the artistic crew sailed from port to port, in search of a riverside or maritime pier, there to exchange experiences with local artists and communities in order to learn about their dynamics, traditions, rituals and passage marks.
From the mediation between the artists and the locals, the notes of this trip were collected for the Logbook, with ideas for cultural intervention on the challenges of living according to nature, sustainable travel and the creation of contemporary art in the current context.
At each pier or port where the IMAGINARIUS vessel docked, there were on-board shows, short films, moments of musical entertainment and street art. On the last pier, on the Douro river, in Porto Carvoeiro, Canedo, Santa Maria da Feira, the show Douro Mar Íntimo will be presented, and the locals are invited to a larger moment of documentary video theatre and night performance that mixes video mapping with texts and music performed by the artists during their maritime and cultural voyage, reflecting the contemporaneity of art in our days and its relationship with the identity and memory of riverside peoples.
