The GONFLES/Vehicles performance figures are inflated with air. In these latex structures, air functions as the engine of creation: it is the air that generates forms and deformations, energy and dynamics. It is also the creator of a new connection between the dancers, the space, the public, the architecture, the city, the roads along which they pass, and that is how life in the public space is agitated and animated.
These multiple links are felt by various audiences, surprised and astonished by the vision and progression of these figures. Empathy is experienced and each of you can find your own reference and connection to these characters. La Grande Phrase begins as a written choreography and unfolds in the city, developing interactions in the space ‘belonging’ to the public. The GONFLES allow themselves to occupy all kinds of private or public spaces – invasions in the space of the audience –, getting very close to the audience, allowing new ways of playing and acting. But actions also take place in stores, cars, accessible balconies, cafes, etc. These spaces become real theatres for micro-choreographic events.
