O Nome da Rosa invites the audience to a timeless journey through the fears, prejudices and myths of the society in which we live, in search of the unknown, the different, the strange and, who knows, of what is sustainable. This journey takes place in the form-function-action triad and exists as a multiple form that points out to various paths. Its functional devices, The Helm, which allows the audience to rotate and gyrate the sculpture; the Pedals, energy generators, or Fresnel’s Ray-gun, which turns sunbeams into fire, are physical interfaces that enable action and radical interaction between the audience and the mechanical/kinetic sculpture.
In O Nome da Rosa, the moments of departure and arrival are condensed into one dimension and into one time, the time when you contemplate and use the sculpture. There, facing the work, there are no spectators, but spec-actors, as they are all authors of the meeting.
This project is a co-production between Artelier? and Associação Teatro Nacional de Rua, and it won the prestigious “Burning Man Art Grant -2019“, awarded annually to works that are part of the “No-Spectators” culture and presented in the desert of Black Rock City, Nevada (USA), in the largest global gallery of alternative culture & art in the landscape.
