Among all the legends surrounding the Castle of Santa Maria da Feira, the most representative concerns Lia and Youssef. Perhaps because it is all about an impossible love between a Christian princess and a Muslim prince and soldier, which takes place in the middle of a dispute for this territory, or because it reminds us of other peoples and other cultures that, in ancestral times, occupied this land.
The Youssef project proposes a contemporary approach to this love legend, bringing out the mythological elements that mark our local identity and intangible heritage.
The legend of Lia and Youssef will be presented in the context of current times, in a narrative about two young people from different cultures and identities, as they discover the facts and elements of this legendary story, ending up, themselves, being protagonists of the same story, as they face the adversities posed by today’s world before it accepts or tolerates their feeling of union: love.
