Continuing its regular programming cycle, the Imaginarius Creation Centre (ICC), in Santa Maria da Feira, will be presenting, until the end of November, Portuguese and international artistic residencies, open rehearsals, workshops, a show, a thematic conversation and a concert conversation, initiatives that are open to the participation of various audiences.
Also on 20 September, Canadian choreographer Julian Nichols will be leading a workshop aimed especially at women who enjoy dance or have a background in dance and movement. Showing his passion for ballet and contemporary dance, Julian Nichols brings together authentic stories and perspectives with movement exercises and group discussions.
“O Tamanho das Coisas” is approached in different formats and perspectives – writing workshop, theatrical creation workshop and show – during the month of October at the ICC.
On 4 October, between 6pm and 10:30pm, professionals, students or those interested in performing arts and literature will embark on a writing workshop, a journey behind the scenes of theatrical creation, as they are invited to write the ending of the new production “O Tamanho das Coisas”. Alex Cassal, director, playwright and actor, arrives in Santa Maria da Feira from Brazil. His works explore the relationship with others and the unveiling of scenic mechanisms in the creation of meeting spaces. Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Norway, Belgium, Spain, France and Japan are some of the countries where he has presented his creations.
The theatre creation workshop is scheduled for 7, 8 and 9 October, between 6pm and 9:30pm and will be led by Marco Paiva. This workshop aims to design the territory, analyse it, look outside it and return to make it grow.
The show “O Tamanho das Coias” takes place on 12 October at 9:00pm and is aimed at audiences of all ages. Paulo Azevedo, actor and speaker, seeks to provide in this show an answer to the question ‘should I continue?’. In a comparison between the actor’s body and the overwhelming scale of what surrounds him, he analyses several other questions together with the spectator: can all things measure their importance by their scale of size? Do we see ourselves as giants?
“Diversity and Inclusion: questions for ourselves” is the theme of the conversation scheduled for 8 November, aimed especially at municipal technicians, programmers and cultural agents, managers of cultural spaces and projects, artists, communication and mediation professionals. Throughout the day, the concepts of diversity and inclusion will be explored and understood by Maria Vlachou, consultant in Cultural Management and Communication, founding member and executive director of the association Acesso Cultura.
The concert talk scheduled for 16 November, at 6pm, is dedicated to Musical Improvisation Practices: Tradition and Perspectives. Aleksandar Caric, conductor of the Santa Maria da Feira Creative Orchestra, and his guests will star in this “mini-concert”.
This year’s ICC programme ends on 22 November, with an open rehearsal by LaB InDança, “The Person as an Element of Creation”, the result of Gabriela Martín’s residency that explores stage creation based on the aesthetic and physical contributions of each person.
The ICC, as a place of creation, continues to involve agents, producers, creators and performers, individuals and collectives, students, professionals and amateurs, from the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira and the world, in different artistic areas, privileging disciplinary intersections.
